Caison water based pigment paste for coloring natural dry aqueous paint

Today, Manager Li is very happy because of  an order of water based pigment black paste for aqueous metel paint.  This application is new to us ,one cilent was finding the suitable water-based pigment paste for his aqueous paint in order to replace the oil based paint. The aqueous paint will be coated on metal surface, requiring natural conditions dry!

This customer had sent us five oild based paint samples as color reference, these paint would be replaced by water-based paint with the same color. He needed us to provide matched water based pigment paste for aqueous paint. 

Previously, the customer had cooperated with us for some times, he purchased water based pigment paste blue and greem, so he had already recognized the quality and service of Shanghai Caison pigment paste!

We began to make the color matching, the customer's requirement is extinction black, so we had to add a lot of barium, and the adding amount of black pigment paste is more, we recommended him to make stability testing before mass operation.  At last, we put 11.2% of KR-501 black pigment paste in the aqueous paint formula. Then the customer confirmed the color and offered the order, and he will receive the black pigment paste in 2 days. All of these are done in one week!

With the improvement of people's environmental awareness, with the stronger and stronger government's regulation of environmental protection, solvent-based metal paint with serious smell will be replaced by water based paint quickly. No smell and natural dry aqueous paint will be more wide application in the future.  It will greatly improve the operating environment, and reduce the emissions of toxic and harmful volatile solvent !

Water based black pigment paste for coloring

Carbon black is an important raw material for black pigment paste production. Different kinds of carbon black will bring different color hue pigment black paste, and the funtion will also be different.  Now we share some important information about carbon black and black pigment paste selection.

According to the production process of carbon black, there are furnace carbon black, tank black and so on;

According to the application of carbon black, there are rubber carbon black, ink carbon black and conductive carbon black;

Carbon black is in the form of particles, it needs to be fully moist and dispersed in the water based black pigment paste material formula. Experienced pigment paste engineers all know that carbon black is difficult to be dispersed, it needs to spend more time than other raw materials to be wet, pre-dispersing time is longer.  Oil absorption is an important indicator of carbon black, the carbon black with higher oil absorption will be smaller particle size, its specific surface area will be bigger, and more black. Of course, it is more difficult to be dispersed well.

So the black pigment paste is more black, the price is more expensive!  As the particle size of black pigment paste is fine, when the light through the black coloring layer, scattering effect of short-wave blue light will be stronger than long-wave red light. The figure is that spraying effect  on bicycle metal parts by water-based black paint, the right one is colored by CAISON 8 series water based pigment paste 8501 Black; the left one is colored by black pigment paste from another pigment paste supplier. Obviously, the right one is more black.

Why should we spend more pigment paste for coloring paint to dark color?

Currently, many people like new ideas in their lives. They hope to color some dark interior wall or exterior wall, but they would find it is hard to prepare the dark color paint with white latex paint and water based pigment paste.

It is because that there are a lot of filled plastid pigments and titanium dioxide in latex paint. Generally, if titanium dioxide is less than 5% in coatings formulation, the coatings has poor hiding power. High quality titanium dioxide has high hiding power and white brightness. Every coatings engineer would know it.

After some testings, Shanghai Caison color engineers learned that even if adding up to 10% of caison brand high concentrated pigment paste to any brand white latex paint in the market, the client could not get paint with black enough, only be dark gray latex paint.

We will find following solution is right way to solve this question:

1. Coloring the paint by pigment powder, this just meets the low quality paint and useful;

2. To buy the latex paint without titanium dioxide base materials, this kind of latex paint has higher resin content;

3. Adding more pigment paste to prepare more dark color paint. But pigment paste has no resin, it will impact the fastness, smoothness and film-forming of latex paint. Because the surfactant in pigment paste would be destroyed by base materials of latex paint, and cause the accumulation of pigment particles in pigment paste, this maybe result the loss.So here we remind consumers that the adding amount of pigment paste is no more than 10% in paint. 

Solutions in future :

We will launch good latex paint to be suitable for dark interior coloring. At present, the new product is still in the evaluation and testing.

How about the fineness of water-based pigment paste?

The fineness of water-based pigment paste is an important technical index to measure the pigment paste quality.  Pigment paste fineness inculdes two parts: one is the size of pigment paste particles; another one is the uniformity of particles.

Through the role of dispersant, wetting agent, emulsifier and other agents, pigment particles in pigment paste slowly forms the small suspended particles after strong shear force of grinding machines in water based system. At last, pigment paste is produced.

According to the experience of coatings engineers, the smaller of pigment paste particles, the better of fineness, and the pigment paste coloring strength is higher. However, the finer of pigment paste fineness, the higher request to dispersion equipment, dispersion medium and the dispersion time. Pigment paste manufacturers should pay more costs for the production of pigment paste.  Also the uniformity of pigment paste fineness is very improtant quality indicator.  So how to detect the pigment paste fineness by us?

1. To observe the fineness of water-based color paste with a microscope, is the most commonly method to detect the fineness of aqueous pigment colorpaste. Usually, the inspectors of pigment paste manufacturers use a magnification of 640 times the biological microscope, eyepiece contains one tenth of the micrometer. The fineness of the pigment paste is observed with the micrometer.

2. Observe the pigment paste fineness  with advanced particle size analyzer.It is more easy.

3. Direct comparison in the application. Prepare a paint formula of 5% pigment paste added amount, another formula is inculding 0.02% pigment paste adding amount. Then scrapes on the substrate. To compare the color strength, the better coloring strength, the better pigment paste fineness.
