色浆是什么东西？对于一个外行来说，确实有很多人不知道色浆是何物？
上周，上海彩生创始人虞幸芝在参加一个工业品学习交流活动的时候，一群来自全国各地的企业管理者或公司经理在一起交流。

期间有同学问：“你们是什么行业的？”
虞幸芝回答：“我是上海彩生公司的，我们是一家专业的色浆生产厂家。”
接着这个同学继续问：“色浆是什么？色浆是干什么用的？”

虞幸芝回答：“色浆是一种着色材料，也算是一种工业原料，色浆是由颜料干粉在表面活性剂，乳化剂等化学助剂的作用下，在高速搅拌和研磨的多道工艺下生产而成的液体颜料分散制品。也叫涂料色浆。所以大部分人不是太熟悉！”然后虞幸芝指指一起学习交流的同学身上穿的T恤衫，说“这个T恤广告衫胸前的印花图案就是用水性涂料色浆印花着色的！水性涂料印花色浆和涂料染色色浆就是我们上海彩生的主打色浆产品！”

有其他同学问：“这个衣服上的图案不是油漆印的吗？”
虞幸芝摇头笑着回答说：“这个是水性涂料色浆印花！纺织品印花和纺织品染色的一种成熟印染方法。可能你们觉得液体有颜色的东西就是油漆，但是一般纺织上是不会到油漆的。纺织品多数是直接接触人体皮肤的，要求使用的着色材料是环保安全的，普通油漆无法满足。”

同学继续问：“那色浆就是衣服纺织品用吗？”
虞幸芝回答：“其实色浆的用途很广泛，就纺织品而言，衣服，织物纱，无纺布，家装墙布等等！还有其它领域，比如日用化学品着色，肥皂，洗涤剂等；还有水性涂料或水性漆配色，木材着色，竹制品涂色！还有现在聚氨酯发泡材料着色，玻璃纤维着色，水泥着色！还有其他很多着色领域都会用到色浆！”

大家听了，眼睛睁大大滴，原来色浆使用是这么广泛！

Caison water based pigment paste for coloring natural dry aqueous paint

Today, Manager Li is very happy because of  an order of water based pigment black paste for aqueous metel paint.  This application is new to us ,one cilent was finding the suitable water-based pigment paste for his aqueous paint in order to replace the oil based paint. The aqueous paint will be coated on metal surface, requiring natural conditions dry!

This customer had sent us five oild based paint samples as color reference, these paint would be replaced by water-based paint with the same color. He needed us to provide matched water based pigment paste for aqueous paint. 

Previously, the customer had cooperated with us for some times, he purchased water based pigment paste blue and greem, so he had already recognized the quality and service of Shanghai Caison pigment paste!

We began to make the color matching, the customer's requirement is extinction black, so we had to add a lot of barium, and the adding amount of black pigment paste is more, we recommended him to make stability testing before mass operation.  At last, we put 11.2% of KR-501 black pigment paste in the aqueous paint formula. Then the customer confirmed the color and offered the order, and he will receive the black pigment paste in 2 days. All of these are done in one week!

With the improvement of people's environmental awareness, with the stronger and stronger government's regulation of environmental protection, solvent-based metal paint with serious smell will be replaced by water based paint quickly. No smell and natural dry aqueous paint will be more wide application in the future.  It will greatly improve the operating environment, and reduce the emissions of toxic and harmful volatile solvent !

Water based black pigment paste for coloring

Carbon black is an important raw material for black pigment paste production. Different kinds of carbon black will bring different color hue pigment black paste, and the funtion will also be different.  Now we share some important information about carbon black and black pigment paste selection.

According to the production process of carbon black, there are furnace carbon black, tank black and so on;

According to the application of carbon black, there are rubber carbon black, ink carbon black and conductive carbon black;

Carbon black is in the form of particles, it needs to be fully moist and dispersed in the water based black pigment paste material formula. Experienced pigment paste engineers all know that carbon black is difficult to be dispersed, it needs to spend more time than other raw materials to be wet, pre-dispersing time is longer.  Oil absorption is an important indicator of carbon black, the carbon black with higher oil absorption will be smaller particle size, its specific surface area will be bigger, and more black. Of course, it is more difficult to be dispersed well.

So the black pigment paste is more black, the price is more expensive!  As the particle size of black pigment paste is fine, when the light through the black coloring layer, scattering effect of short-wave blue light will be stronger than long-wave red light. The figure is that spraying effect  on bicycle metal parts by water-based black paint, the right one is colored by CAISON 8 series water based pigment paste 8501 Black; the left one is colored by black pigment paste from another pigment paste supplier. Obviously, the right one is more black.

CTH-5000 Black pigment paste is a special black pigment paste produced by us, it is the super high blackness  in the black pigment paste market. It is often praised by users from the home and abroad!

Why should we spend more pigment paste for coloring paint to dark color?

Currently, many people like new ideas in their lives. They hope to color some dark interior wall or exterior wall, but they would find it is hard to prepare the dark color paint with white latex paint and water based pigment paste.

It is because that there are a lot of filled plastid pigments and titanium dioxide in latex paint. Generally, if titanium dioxide is less than 5% in coatings formulation, the coatings has poor hiding power. High quality titanium dioxide has high hiding power and white brightness. Every coatings engineer would know it.

After some testings, Shanghai Caison color engineers learned that even if adding up to 10% of caison brand high concentrated pigment paste to any brand white latex paint in the market, the client could not get paint with black enough, only be dark gray latex paint.

We will find following solution is right way to solve this question:

1. Coloring the paint by pigment powder, this just meets the low quality paint and useful;

2. To buy the latex paint without titanium dioxide base materials, this kind of latex paint has higher resin content;

3. Adding more pigment paste to prepare more dark color paint. But pigment paste has no resin, it will impact the fastness, smoothness and film-forming of latex paint. Because the surfactant in pigment paste would be destroyed by base materials of latex paint, and cause the accumulation of pigment particles in pigment paste, this maybe result the loss.So here we remind consumers that the adding amount of pigment paste is no more than 10% in paint. 

Solutions in future :

We will launch good latex paint to be suitable for dark interior coloring. At present, the new product is still in the evaluation and testing.

How about the fineness of water-based pigment paste?

The fineness of water-based pigment paste is an important technical index to measure the pigment paste quality.  Pigment paste fineness inculdes two parts: one is the size of pigment paste particles; another one is the uniformity of particles.

Through the role of dispersant, wetting agent, emulsifier and other agents, pigment particles in pigment paste slowly forms the small suspended particles after strong shear force of grinding machines in water based system. At last, pigment paste is produced.

According to the experience of coatings engineers, the smaller of pigment paste particles, the better of fineness, and the pigment paste coloring strength is higher. However, the finer of pigment paste fineness, the higher request to dispersion equipment, dispersion medium and the dispersion time. Pigment paste manufacturers should pay more costs for the production of pigment paste.  Also the uniformity of pigment paste fineness is very improtant quality indicator.  So how to detect the pigment paste fineness by us?

1. To observe the fineness of water-based color paste with a microscope, is the most commonly method to detect the fineness of aqueous pigment colorpaste. Usually, the inspectors of pigment paste manufacturers use a magnification of 640 times the biological microscope, eyepiece contains one tenth of the micrometer. The fineness of the pigment paste is observed with the micrometer.

2. Observe the pigment paste fineness  with advanced particle size analyzer.It is more easy.

3. Direct comparison in the application. Prepare a paint formula of 5% pigment paste added amount, another formula is inculding 0.02% pigment paste adding amount. Then scrapes on the substrate. To compare the color strength, the better coloring strength, the better pigment paste fineness.

存在的问题：涂料在调深色时经常涉及加入太多的色浆后，涂料发生增稠现象，这些都是色浆内的表面活性剂被乳胶漆基料破坏，造成色浆中颜料颗粒积聚，可能导致客户的损失！涂料报废，而且产生的报废涂料没有地方处理回收！

Prices rising of finished pigment products from BASF and Chemours

According to the multi-channel accessed information by procurement department of Shanghai Caison Color, BASF company announced that their pigment finished products would be increase prices by 15% since June 1st,  the price decision takes effect immediately or according to the contract.

So now such as coatings, plastic, printing, pigment paste and similar chemical industries will face the situation of costs rising. And the enterprises that using phthalocyanine pigments and inorganic pigments to produce and process  will have a significant impact. This price increasing will make the cost of pigment paste production more higher than before.

The reasons of rising price by BASF are that material costs are rapid rising,such as copper, TiO2 or Cobalt materials, while environmental safety and health costs are  further rising. The closure of some of Chinese factories is also pushing the price rising of pigments.

Cost rising of pigments products from global chemical giant must lead to simultaneously prices adjustment of Chinese pigment factories. As the high concentrated pigment paste manufacturer, we will face more motivated industry competition. 

This month, Chemours (former DuPont) issued  a letter saying that he had adjusted the price of titanium dioxide in Greater China since July 1, 2010 or under the contract or legal permission.  All specifications Ti-pare titanium dioxide prices would increase by $200.0/T,  the prices of R-960, TS-6200, TS-6300, R-105, R-108 would increase by $300.0/T.  Price rising of Titanium dioxide would cause a bigger pressure to white pigment paste cost.

The dyes particles react chemically with the fabric fibers under the high temperature and long time conditions. Textile adsorbs the dyes, and the chemical reaction to achieve the purpose of dyeing. Dyes can carry out the depth dyeing for fabrics, hand feeling is also very well, but the dyed wastewater is hard to separate. So dyes wastewater pollution and treatment is a world recognized difficult problem. Different kind of textiles also need different types dyestuffs finish the dyeing. However, pigment dyeing is suitable for wide range of fabrics, pigment paste dyeing process is simple relative to the dyes dyeing.But the fabrics should need grafting before dyeing. Hand feeling of pigment paste dyeing is worse than dyes dyeing, fabric softening is needed after dyeing.

Because this kind of dyeing mechanism is ion-dependent van der Waals force for dyeing! And there are many factors that affect the ion micro-movement, so many of the technical problems of cationic dyeing have not been well resolved until now!

Technology Department of Shanghai Caion Color has always researched the cationic  pigment paste dyeing, which has been five years now. During the dyeing case in lab, the fabric which is dyed by cationic pigment paste, its hand feeling is better soft, because no grafting is needed.  We are doing more experiments on different fabric dyeing , and hoping to improve the performance evaluation of more fabric cationic pigment paste dyeing. We sincerely hope that environmentally friendly cationic dyeing water-based pigment paste has a wider range of applications!

New PVC sheet coloring paste | Recommended from our boss

In the rapid development and technological progress times,  the plastic industry is constantly seeking to develop and improve. Masterbatch is the key plastic colorant in plastic manufacturing industry until now, but the limitation of masterbatch is that the pigment particles are not well dispersed! If pigment color particles is more close to the nanometer level, the color will be more vivid. And this would take more time and market testing.

CAISON brand PVC sheet coloring pigment paste is produced by high shear dispersion equipment which can disperse  the carbon black particles from dozens of microns to 10 microns or less. Comparison of PVC pigment paste with pigment powder and masterbatch

In the PVC plastic coloring industry,  currently more common plastic colorant used is pigment powder, masterbatch and PVC pigment paste. Pigment powder and masterbatch are solid form, PVC pigment paste is liquid paste.  They have their own strengths and weaknesses in PVC plastic coloring.

When pigment powder is used for PVC plastic coloring, it is lower cost, good dispersion and easily operation controlling, it also can reduce the aging of plastic products,  extend the PVC service life. But it is easy to cause the dust pollution during the transporting, storage and plastic processing.  Some of pigment powder that has poor heat resistance and not conducive cutted would be reduce the coloring ability during the PVC coloring process, moreover, some traces will stay on the surface of PVC finished products, can't be remove.

Masterbatch is that takes pigment (or dyestuffs) stay into carrier with the function of resin additives, then makes pigment powder molecules and resin molecules sufficiently combined,  to produce pigment particles having a size similar to resin particles. This process will be through the heating, plasticizing, stirring and cutting.  When masterbatch is used for PVC plastic coloring, it can improve dust pollution problems, more targeted colors, and the compatibility is better than pigment powder.  However, masterbatch needs more processing steps compared to pigment powders, the PVC coloring cost is higher than pigment powder.  When masterbatch carrier has difference with resin colored on performance, plastic products surface appear scatter, stain and pattern. So in the practical application, masterbatch has also been a certain limit due to its compatibility and dispersion.

PVC pigment paste can solve some problems in the using of pigment powder and masterbatch. First, PVC pigment paste is easy to put into the PVC molding and coloring process; second, it has better high temperature resistance, storage convenience, no precipitation; third, PVC pigment paste can reduce the dust pollution,  and make up for the masterbatch lack of compatibility and dispersibility in coloring process; fourth, input of PVC pigment paste is easily controlled during the production, it can reduce color difference, and improve color strength and color brightness; fifth, it meets EU REACH environmental regulatory and requirment. However, for the PVC pigment paste producing, its cost is relative higher than pigment powder and masterbatch, because PVC pigment paste has a higher requirement on process and material quality.

When we choose and use PVC plastic colorant, we would consider the application requirements and process conditions, the preferred choice for using. And in practical applications,  PVC pigment paste will be more in line with double requirements of modern industrial manufacturing and product quality.

在与河南一家上海彩生色浆经销商的交谈中，了解到河南省在产业调整结构上也是力度空前，彩生经销商透露，曾开发不少逐步使用彩生色浆的印染工厂，但迫于当前环保检查力度的加强，不少工厂面临停产整顿的压力！

Oeko-Tex100:2017 Standard had worked| Textile printing pigment paste manufacturer should concern it

The latest version of Oeko-Tex100:2017 International Eco-textile Testing Standard had worked since April 1, 2017. 

As a professional textile printing pigment paste manufacturer, Shanghai Caison Color attaches great importance to the upgrade of Oeko-Tex100:2017 Standard. The new standard refers to the existing international safety chemicals laws and regulations, it strictly controls the limited substances by newly added substances, to control the harmful chemicals in textiles.

Textile printing water based pigment paste is professionally used for textile pigment printing and dyeing, we must learn the latest standards information and details of Oeko-Tex100:2017, and make sure to continue to improve the eco-friendly standard of CAISON textile printing pigment paste.

Interpretation 1: 

The newly added pesticides limited substance amount reaches 0.5 ppm and 1.0 ppm.  Keep it meeting the safety standard of baby products of textile (I class textiles) and adults directly contact with the skin of the textile ( II class of textiles) .

Chlorodiphenylglycolate (CAS: 510-15-6) and Phosphamidon (CAS: 13171-21-6). The total limited amount has not changed.

Interpretation 2:

Strictly limited amount of three kinds of organotin compounds and others reaches 0.5ppm and 1.0ppm.   For Diphenyltin，Tetraethyltin，Monophenyltin.

Interpretation 3:

Limited amount of Phthalates substances limited had increased by 6, so a total of 21 phthalate esters subject to strict limits!  6 phthalate esters newly added.

New products| PVC tinting pigment paste-CU series

To replace the imported products, Shanghai Caison independently researched and developed a new pigment paste product--PVC coloring pigment paste. It can replace the masterbatch used for traditional PVC tinting.

How many types of red pigment paste? 

How does paint formulation engineer choose the applicable pigment paste?  This question is very complicated, because the types of pigment paste is too much. This article will introduce one kind of larger amount sold pigment pastes---red pigment paste.

Firstly, we would learn something about red pigment types, because pigment is the key material for producing pigment paste. Red pigment color paste is made by red pigments, and the characteristics of the red pigment also determines the key characteristics of the red pigment paste.

The red pigment is divided into organic red pigment and inorganic red pigment according to the structure.  Organic red pigments can be divided into azo red pigment, disazo red pigment, azo fine red pigment, heterocyclic red pigment, quinacridone red pigment, dioxazine red pigment, vat red pigment and etc ; inorganic red pigment also can be divided into molybdenum red, cadmium red, antimony sulfide, transparent iron red, natural iron red, molybdenum cadmium red, mercury sulfide, red lead (lead red) and so on.

Due to the different structures of red pigments, it has an important effect on the physical properties, chemical properties and safety parameters of red pigment pastes. Red pigment paste can be produced by different types red pigments, and sometimes some types red pigments are mixed to produce red pigment paste.  Coatings formula engineers should select the right red pigment to manufacture red color pigment paste.

Special description of CD series water based pigment paste for textile catioinc dyeing

CAISON  brand CD series cationic water based pigment paste (adult underwear safety) is professionally used for dyeing of cotton, linen, polyester, acrylic and variety of blended fabrics, garments and yarn.  Compared with the traditional pigment paste dyeing, CD series pigment paste dyeing is process simplification, and doesn't need cationization pretreatment of coton or blended fabrics. It can dye textile directly with "one bath dyeing", so less dyed wastewater, lower energy consumption, leveling agent no needed, it saves the dyeing time and material costs. But some special characteristics nees to be explained:

1. CD series cationic water based pigment paste fully meets the standard of Oeko-Tex100:2017 (Class II) (content limited requirement of formaldehyde, heavy metals, phthalates, APEO and 24 kinds of prohibited aromatic amine); in line with the EU REACH regulations of SVHC (178 kinds limited substances issued the latest ).

2. The dyed textiles don't need grafting or washing, its process is more simpler, the operation is more convenient, the dyeing rate is higher. Pre-dyeing conditions and the best dyeing liquid PH value for different fabrics has different requirement, and you can contact our technical support.

3. Compared with the modified dyeing with traditionalwater-based pigment paste, water consumption is less, wastewater emissions is reduced, so it doesn't only save water , but also save the cost of wastewater treatment.

4. Dyeing cycle is shorter than the traditional pigment paste, further reduce the consumption of additives, water and energy. It is currently leading eco-friendly and energy saving pigment paste. The dyeing fastness had reached the traditional pigment dyeing fastness.

5. The adding amount of matched water-based binders is lower, fabrics hand feeling is better;

6. The colors of CD series aqueous pigment color paste includes red, yellow, blue, green, violet, black, fluorescent colors and etc. We also can design and prepare the other colors based on the specific requirement.

Note:  The instruction of pigment paste testing condition about content of formaldehyde, heavy metals, phthalates, 24 kinds of prohibited aromatic amines and APEO:  they are all tested according to the 10% adding amount of pigment paste which is prepared to water paste or rubber paste  and printed on fabrics.
