Shanghai Caison attended 2017 Market Trend Seminar of Chinese Water-based Coatings and Inks

Shanghai Caison executive and sales director Mrs Cindy Zhang had attended the Chinese water-based coatings market trend seminar that was hold by Ringier Media in Shanghai. Ringier Media is one global industrial media, which is professional in international industrial products markets. 

During the seminar, Cindy listened the speaking by Manager Zhang who was from Valspar coatings company, He talked about some problems about water-based coatings instead of oil-based coatings. Such as producing process improvement, VOC emission reducing. Valspar has used water-based coatings for 40% global container coating, and achieved 94% reduction in emissions, and follow-up is still improving. For example, the nozzle life should be improved in the spraying of water-based pigment paints.

Atfering the meeting, Cindy discussed with Manager Zhang, and exchanged the name cards with each other, they all hoped to make more discussion, tpgether for how to do well color matching of aqueous coatings and water-based pigment paste. Mr.Zhang had told two questions to Chindy , one was the same color with different spectrum, it would be happened during the water-based coatings instead of oil-based coatings; two was that the aqueous pigment color paste used for containers coating belongs to iron oxide. No longer need to import water-based pigment dispersion

In the past, coatings formulation technical personnel liked to choose imported aqueous pigment dispersion, because it was good and stablility quality. So foreign pigment dispersions were imported in large quantities for coloring warer-based coatings. International brands pigment dispersions suppliers had continued to seize the market of Chinese water based coatings. Now, domestic water based pigment dispersion technology has been developed,  imported pigment color dispersion technology has no more breakthrough, domestic aqueous pigment dispersion gradually replaces the imported water-based pigment paste.

The difference between water based pigment paste and aqueous color concentrates

Many clients called and asked us whether we could provide aqueous color concentrates products for coloring, and we Shanghai Caison Color Material Chem. Co.,Ltd. is professional manufacturer of water based pigment paste. The main materials of water-based pigment color paste are granular pigments, and these pigment particles are uniformly and stably dispersed in the water by physical grinding and dispersion processes. The pigment content is generally between 30% to 45%. It looks like the mud, so it is commonly known as water-based pigment paste or water-based pigment dispersion. 

However, aqueous color concentrates always are one kind of dyestuffs that is dissolved by solvents, they have good compatibility with a variety of resin. Color concentrates is also called water-soluble metal complex dyes, and some of them is known as oil-soluble metal complex dyes. For the application market, water based pigment paste and aqueous color concentrates are all super concentrated pre-dispersion color products for coloring or tinting.

Water-based pigment dispersion and aqueous color concentrates can be used for  furniture industry, the paint industry, crafts coloring and other purposes, but each has its own strengths; for furniture, pigment paste can be used for water-based wood paint tinting , but water based color concentrates with better transparency is better for furniture. Because furniture dyeing needs multiple coating, paint with transparent color is necessary, It is higher requirement for paint color to show wood texture, especially the primer coating. So aqueous color concentrates is more suitable for wood furniture coloring!

From the security point of view, water based pigment paste products have strict limited requirement of harmful substances,such as heavy metals, aromatic amine ,formaldehyde and etc. All aqueous pigment color pastes of Shanghai Caison are in line with EU REACH Standard. However, because of metal complex structure in water-based color concentrates , it is difficult to ensure the safety when human body contacts them directly.

Introduction of water based carbon black pigment paste

Carbon black is very important and very common inorganic black pigment, which is widely used for inks, coatings, printing and dyeing applications. However,  special carbon molecular structure of carbon black leads to difficult to disperse and easy to agglomerate. So how to promote the good dispersion of carbon black in water based pigment paste is one important research topic in the research of Shanghai Caison Technology Department.  

The choice of dispersant and addtition amount suitable for carbon black molecular is one of important conditions which is to ensure good dispersion in black pigment paste. According to the experimental results, we know that anionic dispersant with low molecular weight is more suitable for carbon black molecules dispersed in water based black pigment paste. The appropriate dispersing equipment and process is also necessary condition for good dispersion of carbon black. For example, stirring, cutting, grinding baht, are key parameters. 

How to determine the dispersion of water based black pigment paste is excellent ot not?  We can detect the centrifugal stability of the carbon black pigment paste, and check the storage stability at the condition of 50 to 55 degrees Celsius. The study results done by Shanghai Caison technical staff shows that the dispersion of carbon black is good when the particles distribution is very uniform. Particles distribution of CAISON brand water based black pigment paste is not only uniform, but also the average particle size is about 1um. It can be used for textile screen printing, textile pigment dyeing, architectural coatings coloring, natural latex tinting, daily necessities coloring, paper coating and etc. Its applications are extremely wide, and storage stability is more than two years.
