Why should the added amount of water-based pigment paste be no more than 10% for pigment printing?

If you want to use water-based pigment paste for pigment printings, please know that the best adding amount is no more than 10%.

For example, to textile pigment screen printing, user would prepare the textile printing paste, adding pigment paste for coloring; adding binder to fix colors, adding; adding thickener to adjust the printing paste thickness. And these pigment paste, binder, water and thickener need an appropriate proportion, to make the color and fastness reach the desired state.

Generally, the using amount of water-based pigment paste should be about 2% when you need to achieve the medium color depth on the textile printing patterns, and the binder amount would be about 20%. But if the customer get the lower concentrated pigment paste, its coloring strength would be poor.So the customer should be put more pigment paste amount to achieve the desired colors, then this will bring four obvious risks to users:

Risk 1:  if the amount of water-based pigment color paste is more than 10%,  the amount of binder must be increased accordingly, but the color fastness will be deterioration due to the supersaturation.

Risk 2:  The using amount of binder is too much because of pigment paste increasing, and it is resulting in worse hand feeling and softness of textiles.

Risk 3:  The increasing of pigment paste and binder will lead to instability in the printing paste system, mush water and few pigment materials are likely to lead to precipitation and other unstable physical phenomena.

Risk 4:   The increased amount of pigment paste and binder will lead to a corresponding increase of aromatic amines in the pigment composition, increasing of APEO in binder. Then the printed textile would have a bigger risk in environmental indicators exceeding, resulting in the quality accident and loss.
